M.O.B. meeting minutes – February 13, 2011
Meeting called to order around 4…. Shaun Ryan was leading it as President for the first time….19 people present + 2 kids – good turnout!
We had several new guests, so we went around and introduced ourselves.
Old Business: Peoria Beerfest date is set for April 30, so we discussed who was going to bring what. Here's the plan (so far…): Blueberry Blonde – Lenny & Molly Hop Juice – Dave Belgian Blonde – Becky Chocolate Stout – Jeff Brown (possibly…) – Lenny Paul – Wheat something Radioactive Hopgasm – (?????) Shaun Kermit – ? Lisa – ? T–shirts will be available before that – Becky will do an inventory of our stock and let folks know availability next month. Dave and Becky reminded all that the first "Hungry Enthusiast" dinner will be this coming Sunday, Feb. 20 – the date for the next one will be Mar. 20. Let them know if you plan to attend.
New Business: Becky brought up the subject of books. Each year, our club donates books to the Fort Madison and Burlington Public Libraries. So she made a few suggestions and asked if anyone else had any for this year's donation. We decided on: "Tasting Beer" by Randy Mosher to Fort Madison "Radical Brewing" by Randy Mosher to Burlington "Brewmaster's Bible" by Stephen Snyder to Burlington Becky will order them and get that going. Shaun explained a collaborative brew that he, Kermit and Dave made – a Russian Imperial Stout – that will get combined with other batches from the MUGZ club (in Quad Cities area) who have a Bourbon barrel they will age it in. All three shared with us how wonderful it was to have a "Hot Scotchy" during the brew process (warm wort straight from the mash tun with some Scotch in it….. Mmmmm!) Shaun also brought a bit of their brew, uncarbonated, in a growler so we could all get a little taste of what's to come. Delicious already! Can't wait to taste it after the wood aging process. LariJo suggested we try Tommyknocker Brewery's Cocoa Porter if we can find it – it's delicious!
Beer School: This month was all about "light" stouts: dry, oatmeal, and sweet/milk stouts. We had six varieties to sample: Guinness Draught, Murphy's Irish Stout, Dave's Oatmeal Stout, Lenny's Oatmeal Stout, Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout, and Left Hand Milk Stout. Hopefully many of us will be raising a glass or two of some of these next month on the 17th!
